Isabella Currie is the principal oboist of the KC Civic Orchestra. Even though this is only her second season, she loves getting to make music with her friends and a group of amazing musicians!

Isabella grew up in Alpine, Wyoming. She has always loved music. In addition to band and orchestra, she also spent time playing mandolin in a bluegrass band! It wasn’t until her junior year that she settled on playing the oboe.

After high school, Isabella attended Penn State University (We Are!) to earn her Bachelor’s degree in Music Education, a minor in Special Education, and a Professional Performers Certificate. Her next stop was the University of Missouri- Kansas City (Roo Up!), where she completed a Master’s in Oboe Performance.

Today, Isabella teaches the next generation of musicians as the general music teacher at Gladstone Elementary School. She also teaches piano and PreK music classes, and is the adjunct Professor of Oboe at MidAmerica Nazarene University. She feels incredibly lucky to have the opportunity to make music every day!

In her free time, Isabella loves to lift weights, read, crochet, and watch RuPaul’s Drag Race with her boyfriend, Will, and their Bengal cat, Indy.
